Fall of the Gods locations

The story of Fall of the Gods takes place in a number of different locations.

The main place where most of the events happen, is the world of Hjorvard, a rich planet near the "center" of the World Sphere. Hjorvard is rich in different resources, material and magical. It is divided into four continents, named just Eastern Hjorvard and so on. Eastern Hjorvard is the nexus of events.

Its most notable locations are:
  • Guarded Kingdom is a most powerful state in the land. It was created by Sigerlynn and her Apprentices when they destroyed the Empire of Night ruled by Hedin. Guarded Kingdom, as its name implies, is protected by the Young Gods and their priests, and it's somewhat of a symbol of the Young Gods' power. The main Solar Temple in Vidvaghar, the capital of Guarded Kingdom, is one of the greatest wonders of the land. A great artifact is rumored to be stored there, holding the sum of the Priests' formidable power.
  • Gnipahellir is a complete antithesis of the Kingdom. This desolate place, located in the far north, is a sum of most people's fears, because the gateway of Hell is located there. Unlike typical Hell, the hjorvardian one, Niflhel (or simply Hel), is a bleak, freezing place where the damned souls chill in the wind. Gnipahellir can give one the idea of afterlife, if there's anyone bold enough to venture there. Not only the place is depressing itself, but many hellish creatures dwell in and around it, including the infamous Garm, the Dog of Hell.
  • Trade Republic is a commonwealth of merchants and traders. It controls two large cities and a large slice of fertile territory in the southern part of the continent. This union makes money from trading good of all kind, from jewelry to weapons and battleships, and it houses the best shipyards and armories in Hjorvard. Many have tried to take the Trade Republic's wealths, but none have succeeded, as their cities are heavily fortified, and the mercenary soldiers guarding them are always well-trained and ready to fight for their employers.
  • Redulsfjoll is the sacred garden of Jalini, Lady of the Green World. Despite its inappropriate location near Gnipahellir, the Gateway of Hell and the inhospitable northern lands, it is truly an amazing garden full of life. Strange trees grow unbelievably tall, and various critters prowl in their shade. The Keepers of this place are always tending to the nature. They are not aggressive, but they may defend their land against those who oppose the power of the Goddess.
  • Brunevaghar Valley is seldom visited by travellers. Like Redulsfjoll, it's a strange and hallowed place, though very different powers have established their foothold there. In the depth of the valley, a strange temple stands, and the priests would turn everyone away. This shrine is said to be devoted to the mysterious Farpower. Nobody really knows what the Farpower really is, but it definitely has its own interests in many places, including Hjorvard.
  • Hedinsey island was once the capital of the Empire of Night, and it was named by Hedin after himself. It was the last bastion of the Empire's defense. When the mainland parts of the Empire was lost, the terran and monster defenders were resisting the attacks of Sigerlynn's armies stubbornly until Sigerlynn engaged Hedin in a duel and won. The island was turned into an outpost of the Guarded Kingdom, but it was never much attended to. When Hagen's fledgling militia captured it, Hagen and Hedin called the best artisans of Hjorvard to make Hedinsey a strong fortress once again, and now Hedinsey is more than prepared to resist both normal and magical siege.
  • Living Rocks is small mountain valley that does not welcome travellers. It was called so because the rocks of the place seem to defend themselves against interlopers and cast deadly spells on them. Apparently, this array was created by the place's owner, Old Khroft, who wanted solitude. In order to guarantee that even better, he released several sentry bots into the surrounding woods. These bots may welcome hostile visitors with missiles and chaingun bursts.
  • Himinvaghar kingdom is a relatively new player on the chessboard of Eastern Hjorvard. Like many newborn states, it is aggressive and tries to pinch the lead from the Guarded Kingdom. However, without some powerful magic comparable to its neighbor's, it has little hopes of success.
Other locations outside of Eastern Hjorvard include:
  • The Hallowed Land is the home to the Young Gods. It is a lush paradise planet, with glorious palaces, gardens and warm seas covering most of its surface. Few mortals have seen this place even in visions, but it is said that the great heroes of wars against Rakoth and Hedin were granted eternal life and residence in the Hallowed Land. The Young Gods command their vast domain from the Hallowed Land, and there are caches and sources of power within it. No one knows for sure what they are, though. Even Rakoth could not storm into the Hallowed Land, although his armies were standing on its very gates in the days of his highest glory.
  • Avalon is the island created by Merlin, and it is his favourite residence, as well as the centre of his personal magical experiments, and his fortified stronghold as well, though it may not look like one. Merlin is usually found in his palace in the northwestern part of the island, unless he is attending to the matters of the Generation in the Castle of All Ancients. However, those who dare invade Avalon would not have an easy walk through the woods, as it is full of traps and guardians, and protected by magical shields.
  • Netherworlds is the collective name for several uninhabited planets grouped together on the opposite side of the World Sphere from the Hallowed Land (with Hjorvard located halfway between them). What they have in common is the harsh conditions - some of them are freezing, some are baking lifeless deserts, and some are shrouded in darkness. These worlds usually serve as prisons, resource quarries, or sources of magical energy. No one would usually come to these places willingly, with one exception - for some reason, Rakoth built his main stronghold there during his rebellion.
