Malware Alert!
by Magic, 24th Jul 09
Unfortunately, I've had reports of malware being listed on the Samods forum, which I have now confirmed with my own experience. This is coupled with one of our subdomains being listed as 'unsafe' on google.com. The issue is being investigated right now.

In the mean time, sit tight.

Edit: The source of the problem on the forum has been addressed and fixed, it can be used again. My trusty webmaster Wargiant is checking into any other problems with the site.

Regards,

Update 1: RE: Malware Alert!

I apologize for the edit of Magic's post; this is Lavarinth of Campaign Creations. As an affiliate site and with the ability to edit news, and Magic's current absence from any instant messaging program, I took it upon myself to inform you that visiting the forum will infect your computer with malware, and likely cause your computer to restart without your request. I just experienced this heavily. Use the forum at your own risk until all issues are resolved. Apologies to Magic for editing his post.

- Lavarinth.

Update 2: No worries Lav and thanks. Unfortunately this particular malware has a knack for coming back after apparently being removed. Feel free to stay away from samods.org until further news.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Update 3: oh yeah btw it's safe again now -Taeradun
Mafia - Script Commentary
by Magic, 19th Jul 09
An article you can't refuse (to read)...

My series of gaming script commentaries continues, with Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven now available. To describe it, I'll simply provide an exerpt from the overview:

"Set in a fictional city during prohibition America, it tells the tale of Thomas Angelo as he slips into the sordid world of the mafia. The plot was the big draw for the game - apparently the screenplay was 400 pages long - with clear influences from The Godfather and Goodfellas, staple classic movies of the crime genre. These weren't just nods or quick jokes, as where Rockstar had a name like the Leone mafia family or a level title of "Keep your friends close... " in the GTA games, Mafia has characters, scenes and pure atmosphere that is straight out of the genre and setting.

I hope to show just how amazing the story of Mafia really is. The cutscenes, for their time, were fantastic and far more emotional than other games of the time. The player feels like a real mobster, with a history and feelings, not just some goon taking on bizarre missions for the sake of it.
"

Despite the script being absolutely huge, I believe I've came up with a solid commentary that at least shows how faithful to the crime movie genre the game is. If you're a fan of the game, crime movies in general or script design for games, I sincerely recommend you check it out.

Enjoy!

Campaign Creations is proud to present their next contest: The StarCraft Scenario Contest. Your prize this time? Well, only one winner will be accountable for this contest, and that winner will get to receive the StarCraft Cinematic Poster. And, naturally, to up the interest:

The Winner Will Receive a StarCraft II Beta Key for Him or Herself and a Friend!

Once again, thanks to the support of Blizzard Entertainment, they've helped sponsor this contest officially by offering a pair of beta keys for the winner. You think you have what it takes to create the most epic single player scenario map? Then here's what you have to do:

Contest will be a scenario map creation contest, with a predetermined character: Judicator Zilous, where the contestants must portray an event in one map alone with this character as the protagonist to a basic self-determined story. Judgment will be based primary on the complexity and amount of story-driven content contained within the map. In addition, the mapping ability and overall professionalism of the project will also be considered. Additional extras such as music, vocal work, or artwork adjustment will not directly ultimately affect judgment but may aid in the scoring. The contest will be based off a scoring system, where one can acquire up to ten points based on each criteria: Text (Spelling, Grammar, Formatting, Dialogue, etc), Triggers (Complexity, Functional, Usage), Mapping (Categories: Layout and Beauty), and Professionalism (Attention to detail, lore, and presentation).

A few important notes to take into account is that Judicator Zilous operates an Arbiter. Arbiters have been known to have the ability to manipulate space and time to transport personal and supplies, alongside freeze personal in the same manner. This, however, does not limit them from giving themselves the ability to time travel or perhaps even enter other dimensions. Your imagination is your limits in this contest, the only requirement is Judicator Zilous be the main character, however his survival or lack of is in your hands.

You have four weeks from this day to complete a total package campaign revolving around the StarCraft storyline. Let's make your vast knowledge in both triggering and mapping finally come of good use, and show that YOU deserve those keys!
